America....The Land Of Worship

Ok, I have not been on the job as it relates to my blog; please forgive me. There have been a number of things going on and a number of topics that I could have discussed, but I have not been diligent for one reason or another. Please pray for me in this area. I'm pretty sure my wife would prefer this outlet instead of being my lone ear of ventilation, I love my wife!!!

Recently we took a trip to Washington D.C., which explains the picture above. After making the trek to see a number of monuments the Lincoln Memorial struck a chord in my heart; it captured the essence of what America truly worships. I read the inscription listed above "Honest Abe's" head and God impressed upon me that we truly do know how to worship in this country. The only problem is that among other things, chiefly we worship man!

I started thinking about all the monuments in the area and wondered, “ is there nothing dedicated to the Most High God who is the original Founding Father", in an eternal sense. I say this due to the amount of the monuments and buildings that embody the spirit or ideals of these men. Immediately I thought of Paul in Greece, where he made mention of all the gods/idols that they served. They were so off the deep end with their worship they even had an altar dedicated to the unknown god, talkin about covering all the bases!

Check Out the discourse in Acts 17: 16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit; was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. 22 So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said,“‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ 29 Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

It was by preaching Jesus that Paul sought to turn the city away from their idolatry, which is what’s needed in our country.

Now, I am a fan of the historical aspects of visiting our nation’s capital, but it is easy to get lost in the "mythology" of America and forget about what really matters.

We do find it very easy to Worship man and for that I must say that we need to repent and serve the Creator and not the created.
